I think I speak for a great many people, when I say, “This better be good!”

Okay… So last week started off cute and turned out depressing (w/r/t the news, anyway). And this week starts off depressing and we’ll see where it leads… I’m not making any promises!!
Holy Frijoles! It looks like someone hacked in and did a (minor) redesign on my site! (Ok, it was me…) Comments, suggestions, bug reports? Please comment…
This is a good example of irony. As a matter of fact, I’d even go so far as to say it’s the best example of irony I can recall. Anybody disagree? =)
Former Democratic senator (and chick sex0r =) Gary Hart is considering another run for the Presidency in 2004. His website presents some interesting transcripts and articles where he lays out his platform and so forth. Particularly interesting, in light of current events, is his distinctly un-Bushian vision for America’s Role in the 21st-Century World. And as for the sex scandal? Damn, America… Wake up and get over yourself. Who the hell wasn’t wasn’t fooling around?!?
What happens when the War on Terror declares war on the War on Drugs? Anyway, I don’t know why the US is against Opium anyway? It makes people easy as hell to govern, no? There won’t be any protest, any backtalk, any civil disobedience… Just an IV drip and a few meals a day and you’ve got yourself a friend for life, Mr. Politician!
See you later… asshat! (Although, why did he do it? Maybe I’m just being cynical, but whenever any of these guys does anything I just get a bad feeling…. =)
Reading a recent editorial in the NY Times (quick, read it before it goes into the pay archive!) about Clearchannel’s role in staging pro-war protests in various and sundry places throughout the US, I was reminded of just how “shocking and awesome” the power of this mega-corporation really is. Before 1996, recall, it was illegal for any one corporation to own multiple radio stations in any given market. In the 7 years since the Telecommunications Act of 1996 passed, Clearchannel has assumed an (almost) monopolistic position in US Radio, owning multiple radio stations across formats in the majority of US markets. Here in Chicago we are blessed with a number of alternatives, and as an owner of a non-CD-player equipped automobile, I really appreciate these stations. Anyone who has spent time in a smaller broadcast market recently can attest, the pickings are slim. Aaaanyway… During my Clearchannel research, I turned up a few nice documents detailing the past, present and future of telecom regulation and lobbying:
Interesting stuff… Who knew, for instance, that FCC Chair Michael Powell was the son of Secretary of State Colin Powell? I mean, jeez, what with Bush and Dad and friends running the executive branch, is everybody in the damn cabinet related to each other? I hope they’re not inter-breeding! Well, I suppose we’ve known it for years, and while academic types have been debating and postulating and publishing essays about it, apparently some folks have been putting into practice the idea that television (i.e. “The Media”) equals mass mind control and the revolution will most assuredly not be televised. Bitches with switches, people. Welcome to The Matrix… Welcome to the Ministry of Truth… Welcome to the Hive mind…. Bzzz…. bzzz… bzzzz….. Protect the Queen!
Is Drudge on the world’s longest coffee break, or something? A good 75% of his articles have been straight from the Washington Post since the beginning of the war. Try The Agonist for a more well-researched perspective. Seriously, this guy updates every 5 – 10 minutes, and is hours ahead of most other sources.
Looks like the “coalition of the willing” is really starting to pay off. Next up, Krygerzssyberszgerisaistan helps out the US in a high-stakes game of Scrabble!
