Peter Porker the Spider-Ham?!?!? I've NEVER heard of that - only you, Eric would know about something like that:) I haven't seen Spidey 2 yet, but even the first one gave him a tad more gravitas than I was accustomed to seeing, ("Gosh Mary-Jane, you're super-neat!"). As for the new Batman - I'm not going to get excited for fear of having my expectations trampled on yet again. BUUUT, it _will_ have Christian Bale...two words...yummm...mmy

It seems like Batman has _always_ been dark and more well-developed as a character. The animated series only confirmed this. Spider-man on the other hand, always seemed kind of goofy to me, and it's only thanks to the new movies that he's gained some depth. Of course, this may be due in part to the fact that basically my entire experience with Spider-man, prior to the movies was via a single issue of this parody comic called <a href="http://www.spiderfan.org/comics/title/peter_porker.html" rel="nofollow">"Peter Porker, the SpectacularSpider Ham"</a> It's hard to say =)

i have no geek facts to share, but are we all excited about <a href="http://batmanbegins.warnerbros.com/" rel="nofollow">'batman begins'</a>? christopher nolan is directing it (and they shot/will shoot some of it around the streets where eric and i work) and it is almost guaranteed not to suck like the last couple batman films. batman is by far my favorite superhero, although after seeing 'spiderman 2' last night, i almost, <i>almost</i> want to say spiderman is the man. but he's not. it's batman.

Yes! I own this DVD, and let`s all contact our Congressmen and beg for a Volume 2.

One more geek fact about the show (mad props for knowing about the black cells) - they brought in a second artist to do comps for the female characters because the artist who did the male characters drew females that were too blocky.

I LOVED THAT SERIES AND I WATCHED IT EVERY FARKING DAY. There was something very cool and dark about it - almost like they were trying to channel a Tim Burton-like atmosphere. I would even go so far as to say that at times the plot-lines were psychologically _messed up_ - the stories of how certain villains "came to be" are fantastic, and waaay better than any movie version...
TWO GEEK FACTS I'm SURE ERIC ALREADY KNOWS:
1) The whole cartoon was drawn on black animation cells, (as opposed to white), thus giving the whole thing a dark look and any light/white elements had to be painted in.
2) Kevin Smith loved the Harley Quinn character so much he named his daughter after her...

I wouldn't say I was _into_ Batman any more than many other animated series that I grew up watching. I mean, Ren and Stimpy, Animaniacs, Tiny Toons, Transformers, etc... I'd love to have DVD box sets of all of these. I guess Batman is kind of an anomaly, since it was really the only "superhero" cartoon that I watched regularly (does Transformers count?) but anyway, as much as I'd enjoy having "complete" multi-volume collections of these series, I can never stomach the ($50 x 4-6 volumes = $300!) price tags that usually accompany them. I mean, I understand the economics of buying out the rights for an entire series, and cutting everyone in on the royalties, etc., but damn, that's expensive!

These shows were produced over 10 years ago, and I'm sure that before the unexpected success of previous DVD sets, there was no plan to issue collections like these. So all the cash coming in from sales is really a bonus for the creators! Of course, no one can blame them for charging all the market will bear, but until such time as I'm literally shitting money, I think I'll just subsist on the slow, steady drip of animated programming provided by my cable TV. =P
