Quiet and the New Loud

If you’re planning on being alive and in Chicago on the following dates, I’d highly recommend picking up tickets for the following shows:

Kings of Convenience - Tue 2/22 9PM - Double Door

The Music / Kasabian - Wed 3/2 - Metro

And, if you haven’t heard these bands yet then Fuckin’ A, are you in for a nice surprise! The Kings are two Norwegian dudes, and they put out some of the softest, soothingest music since Belle and Sebastian “went techno.” Not only that, but one member is a pretty decent DJ with Napolean Dynamite hair and some of the biggest, chunkiest glasses ever. Also, they can dance.

And then there’s this Music / Kasabian double-bill. Bring your earplugs. Seriously. These are two of the loudest rock bands that England currently has on offer. The Music shamelessly rip off Zeppelin at every turn, but shockingly enough, do a pretty decent job of it! The singer’s voice can take a little getting used to (think someplace between Geddy Lee and The Darkness, but he does a pretty good job of not “overdoing” it on most songs, so I think it’s pretty tolerable. Oh also, their lyrics are dumb as hell, but that’s the price you pay for melting your brains with drugs and bass, I guess.

Like The Music, Kasabian have gotten luke-warm reviews on The Fork. But whatever. Primal Scream’s Mani has gone on the record as calling Kasabian the best band in Britain today, and the one he would join, were he not already in The Scream. Also, he’s said they remind him of another band he used to be in. So there.

Anyway, hope to see you at the shows. Here are a few MP3s to help you make up your mind:

Kings of Convenience - Homesick
The Music - Freedom Fighters
Kasabian - L.S.F (Lost Souls Forever)
