So I was just reading this interview with James’ Tim Booth and when asked for his favorite book he replies:
My favorite book, today, is the Philip Pullman trilogy, His Dark Material. These are 3 fantasy books, originally written for teenagers, but they turned into something quite amazing, as the theme becomes two children’s journey to try and kill god. Better than Lord of The Rings and Harry Potter.
Trying to kill God has always been a hobby of mine, so I decided to check out the books on Amazon. The reviews were pretty predictably split between, “These are among the best books ever!” and “You’re all going to burn in hell!” Then I noticed in one of the reviews that a movie was (allegedly) in the works, and so I hopped on over to IMDB to see what I could find out about that. The info is pretty slim at this point, but the one thing that we do know about the upcoming film version is that New Line and writer Chris Weitz were recently in the news for a horrifying display of disrespect and dicklessness with regards to the movie’s screenplay. Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to read the books then. No harm in that! =)
