It seems Apple brought Errol Morris back to shoot some more “Switch” commercials, but was not happy with the results. The focus this time was going to be on “iPod Switchers” i.e. people who bought an iPod and were so enamored of it that they ended up buying a Mac. I still think there is a *huge* market of people (myself included) who could be the focus of a “Switch Back” campaign i.e. the first computers we ever used were Apple IIs (c/GS/e), our schools were heavily Mac-centric (except for that one awesome TRS-80 lab we had at my Jr. High) and the only reason we moved to PCs when we started getting our own computers was because of cost, games and customizability. Well, cost and games are still deal-breakers in a lot of cases, but Mac Mini is helping bring prices down, and console games are the bigger deal now anyway. And speaking as a guy who used to look down on Macs because there was no command line interface (or at least none that I could find), I must admit that I’m quite impressed by the Terminal / BSD underpinnings in OS X. So I use a Mac now (getting a used powerbook for cheap helped make that decision a lot easier) I switched *back*, and I’m not the only one! Where’s my commercial? (Or my job, for that matter… But that’s another story… =)
