Things that don’t exist

Read 2 really resonant things that were posted on the Internet today:

1. The Ecstasy of Influence by Jonathan Lethem – It’s looooooong, but totally necessary reading. Consider it an inoculation against the years of rampant propaganda we’re going to have to face as ©opyright continues its long and futile battle against the “right to remix.”
2. Don’t ask employees to be passionate about the company! – Do expect them to be passionate about their profession and the type of work they do. The company should behave just like a good user interface — support people in doing what they’re trying to do, and stay the hell out of their way.
