Ever since I first heard “Waiting for a Sunny Day” by Bruce Springsteen, I had the sneaking suspicion that it was actually a Christmas song that The Boss had just repurposed for non-holiday use. Now thanks to The Jingler I can finally produce some solid evidence to support my theory!
I dunno what it is about the original that lends itself so well to Jinglification… Is it the plodding drumbeat? The festive fiddle work? Or the soaring saxophone of “The Big Man” (by which I mean Clarence Clemons)? Regardless, if Bruce would just release this song with the original Xmas lyrics that I know he has stashed away somewhere, I think he’d have one serious Holiday Hit on his Hands!
