Ten shekels?! Are you trying to insult me?! Me, with a poor dying grandmother?!

NYTimes presents an interesting article about “The Return of Haggling” at modern-day megastores, which allegedly “is a considerable change from even 10 years ago…when studies showed that consumers did not like to bargain and did not consider themselves good at it.” This reminds me of a recent episode of King of the Hill, which I am usually informed that “nobody watches anymore” but they should because Mike Judge is still the closest thing to Jonathan Swift that the last 20 years have yet produced:

King of the Hill - The Accidental Terrorist

(And while I’m on my KOTH high horse, let me also recommend to you this other recent episode in which Peggy gets a job as a real estate agent and ends up inadvertently gentrifying a nearby Mexican neighborhood by selling all the properties to kickball-playing, scarf-wearing hipsters & artists looking for something “real,” thereby pricing out Hank’s friend Enrique who has been renting there for 20 years. They put SALMON in the fish tacos… SALMON! They’re ruining everything!)
